Taking the honest and open style of raw acoustic music and mixing it with the power of rock music, Phil and Bert (AKA The Haiku) offer up a musical dish which is often unexpected, but which always leaves the listener feeling well nourished. With an eye-catching line-up of vocals, acoustic guitar and drums, audiences are often taken by surprise at the intensity of the sound created by such a minimal arrangement. Certainly, time spent with The Haiku leaves you in no doubt that the acoustic guitar does not have to be a quiet instrument. What you will take away is a memory of incredibly personal songs, which somehow manage to speak to each individual member of the audience. Anyone who’s ever loved and lost; or been frustrated with the state of the world; or been annoyed with the unfairness of life; or enjoyed the feeling of hope for the future, will understand and appreciate what The Haiku have to offer. The Haiku’s live show is lively, rousing and fun, and leaves you tapping your feet and often singing along, even if you’ve never heard the songs before.
Song writer Mr Phil is influenced by lots of shitty things that happen. Generally, when the ways of life get in the way of enjoying yourself, and being happy. That doesn't mean the songs are all miserable though. Far from it, that just happens to be the period during which Mr Phil is at his most creative. As far as bands and artists, Phil is influenced by all the music he has ever listened to. This includes the following (in alphabetical order) - Badly Drawn Boy - Barenaked Ladies - Beach Boys - Beatles - Beck - Ben Folds Five - Blur - Buddy Holly - Charles Wesley - Coldplay - Crowded House - Del Amitri - Doves - Eels - Everclear - Fleetwood Mac - Foo Fighters - Futureheads - Gomez - I Am Kloot - Idlewild - Jack Johnson - John Rutter - Kate Rusby - Kings of Convenience - Kinks - The La's - Led Zeppelin - Lemonheads - Levellers - Lovin' Spoonful - Mansun - Marcy Playground - Nirvana - Oasis - Paul Simon - The Proclaimers - REM - Ryan Adams - Snow Patrol - Squeeze - Turin Brakes - Weezer - The Wiyos - XTC - Zutons
